Issue Position: Kentucky's Economy

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

The root cause of the majority of problems Kentucky is presently facing can be directly linked to the state of our current economy, and nowhere is this more evident than in Grayson County, Kentucky. At the height of the current economic recession, Grayson County had an unemployment rate of over 17%, twice the national average. Needless to say, this situation created financial havoc, not only for our families and friends, but also for the city and county governments with the resulting decline in tax revenues. And, what has been our state government's answer to this problem? We are all still waiting for them to give us this answer.

In the 2013 session of the Kentucky General Session, over 700 bills were filed for consideration, with very few of those bills directed at job creation. It would have made much more sense, given the current state of affairs, if 700 bills had been filed soley to create jobs in Kentucky, but our State Legislature's attention was directed elsewhere. Creating jobs, more than any other single means, addresses the revenue shortfalls of this state

We need to closely examine what measures other states in our great nation have undertaken to create new jobs, and emulate what they have done to make our state more progressive and employer friendly.
